The Worry
“Is my parent safe when I'm not there?”
A trained, matched aide and a care plan built by a Registered Nurse.

When someone you love needs help to stay safe and independent at home, you shouldn't have to figure it out alone. For more than 40 years, COHME has provided trusted, non-profit home care across Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens, with a licensed social worker on every case, at no extra cost.
Most agencies charge extra. We include it, always.
We match on personality, not just availability, so your loved one actually looks forward to the visit.
Short-term or long-term, we begin as soon as possible and work around your schedule.
You've noticed the missed medications, the unsteady steps, the meals going uneaten. You want your parent to stay in the home they love, but you're stretched thin, worried, and unsure who to trust. Choosing home care can feel like handing over the person you love most to a stranger.
At COHME, we built our entire agency around a simple belief: when caregivers are supported and respected, they deliver better, more compassionate care. That's why families across NYC trust us to show up, follow through, and treat their loved ones like our own.

“I can't manage all of this myself.”
A licensed social worker coordinates care with you, the family, and doctors
“Will they actually care?”
A 40-year non-profit mission, not a franchise chasing margin.
COHME began with one social worker's conviction. In the 1980s, Lucy Rosengarten witnessed a model of truly supportive, dignified elder care abroad and made it her life's mission to bring it home to New York. She saw that home health aides weren't being given the support they needed to provide great care, so she founded COHME to change that.
Four decades later, that mission still drives us. As a non-profit, we answer to our clients and their families, not shareholders.
Our aides stay with us for years, which means your loved one is cared for by experienced people who know what they're doing. We're licensed by the New York State Department of Health and a proud Parkinson's Foundation Community Partner.

Your matched aide starts as soon as possible. Your social worker stays involved every step of the way.

A fall, a missed medication, a day spent alone and confused. The risks of going without proper care are real, and they add up. Family caregivers burn out, and small problems become hospital visits. You don't have to wait until there's a crisis. The right support today means a safer, calmer, more independent tomorrow, for your loved one and for you.
A level of coordination most agencies charge extra for, or don't offer at all.
We pair on personality and needs, so clients truly thrive.
Our staff stay for years, giving you consistency and depth of experience.
Driven by mission, not margin, for over 40 years.
From short-term (even under 7 days) post-surgery help to long-term daily support.
